The coach of Bayer Leverkusen, Xabi Alonsowas loud at a press conference when discussing the immigrant deportation plan he proposed Germany the far right party Alternative for Germany (AfD)an initiative that could affect millions of people.
The Basque coach said that “we must have a clear position on our values and our democracy and take a clear position on these issues. The whole society is open, very international. So we have to defend our values. We cannot accept such slogans. We must be firm and not accept these intolerant demands,” he said.
And he insisted that “we have to believe that we live in a very open society, that everyone has the right to come here and do everything they can.”
He spoke about his specific case: “I came to give the best of myself and contribute to society and integrate. Everyone has the right to come here and bring the best they canand embrace this culture wherever they come from.”
And he added that “but that doesn’t just apply to me, but to many people around the world. It happens in Germany, it’s happening in Spain, it’s happening in Italy. We have to defend all these values that we defend here in Germany, but also in Europe. With all our might.”
