Date:

With the elimination of Cameroon of Africa Cupthe focus is now on Samuel Eto’o. The former footballer for Mallorca, FC Barcelona and Inter Milan among others, now the president of the Cameroonian football federation (Fecafoot), has a backpack full of accusations from the past that can now explode. ‘The Athletic’ has seen WhatsApp messages, emails, letters and audio recordings that the former Fecafoot executive says are from Eto’o and others and the former executive says supports a long list of accusations: match -fixing, abuse of power, physical threats, incitement to violence and dissemination of false information in Cameroon.

The file was sent to the FIFA Ethics Committee in July by the former vice president of Fecafoot, Henry Njalla Quan Junior, and is also being investigated by CAF (African football federation). In August, CAF said it was investigating “serious” allegations of “inappropriate behaviour” made by some Cameroonian football stakeholders against Eto’o. He also told ‘The Athletic’ that the investigation is still active but – as they made clear in their initial statement – Eto’o “is presumed innocent until a competent judicial body concludes otherwise.” FIFA declined to comment to the aforementioned media on whether they had started their own investigation.

‘The Athletic’ has seen a ten-page document supplemented by around 70 pieces of evidence detailing the claims against Eto’o and four other Fecafoot officials. In addition, they claim that 12 other people should be questioned in connection with the accusations raised.
