Hamilton’s statement after the announcement of his signing for Ferrari: “I have the opportunity to fulfill another childhood dream”

Lewis Hamilton spoke publicly for the first time since his departure became official. Mercedes to the pilot Ferrari starting in the 2025 season.

“It’s been an exciting few days full of different emotions. But, as you know, after 11 incredible years with the Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team the time has come to start a new chapter in my life and I will join Scuderia Ferrari in 2025.

I feel very lucky after achieving things at Mercedes that I could only dream of as a child. Today I have the opportunity to fulfill another childhood dream by driving a red Ferrari.

Mercedes has been a big part of my life since I was 13, so this decision was the hardest I’ve ever had to make. I am incredibly proud of everything we have accomplished together and am very grateful for the hard work and dedication of everyone I have worked with over the years. And, of course, Toto, for his friendship, guidance and leadership. Together we have won titles, broken records and become the most successful driver-team partnership in F1 history. And of course I can’t forget Niki, who was a great supporter and whom I still miss every day.

I must also share my enormous gratitude to the entire board of directors of Mercedes-Benz, to all members of the company in Germany and to everyone for supporting me during these 26 years.

But this is the right time to change and face a new challenge. I still remember the feeling of taking a leap of faith into the unknown when I first joined Mercedes in 2013. I know some people didn’t understand it at the time, but I took the right step then and it’s the feeling that I have something new now. I’m excited to see what I can bring to this new opportunity and what we can do together.

However, at the moment I am not thinking about 2025. My focus is on next season and getting back on track with Mercedes. I am more motivated than ever, fitter and more focused than ever and I want to help Mercedes win again. I am 100% committed to the work I have to do and I am determined to finish my association with the team at a high level.

Thanks to everyone who has been with me on this journey. You all have encouraged me as I chase my dreams and I hope I can continue to make you proud. As always, I’m sending you my love and positive energy.”
