Leigh Wood and Michael Conlan rematch hint as Eddie Hearn evaluates the options –

Date:

Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn isn’t ruling out the possibility of a rematch between Michael Conlan and Laywood this summer.

The duo held a thriller in Nottingham a fortnight ago, in which Wood came from behind in the judges’ bills to stop Conlan in the final round.

Belfast opponent fell unconscious on the ropes when Wood defended his WBA world title at the motorsport circuit.

It was the brutal contender at the end of the year and the fighting fans are now demanding a rematch.

And legendary promoter Hearn believes a summer repeat “may be the biggest fight” for Champion Wood.

“A rematch could be the biggest fight. It was an epic battle, but now he has options,” Hearn told Boxingscene.

“Generally, you have the opportunity to do it in July, which gives him another three or four weeks. He’s had two, is enough? If you want to do that, you can’t wait until next year, that’s her window.”

He should be ready by the end of the summer if he’s going to be on the City Ground.

Hearn added, “Liv Wood just wants to fight at City Ground.

“So what are the battles?” Chico Martinez? This is possible. Josh Warrington? Sure, though he might like it on Elland Road, this is a junkyard. Michael Conlan’s revenge? at all. Santa Cruz? Yes, he has options.”

WBA champion Wood has admitted his “dream” would be to fight at home at the City Ground in Nottingham Forest.

The mood is believed to be rising as the noise rose that followed his departure into the track two weeks ago at the Motorpoint Arena.

“Fighting there has always been a dream. I told everyone I would and Eddie Hearn promised me that if I won the match, it would be,” Wood said.

“I can’t wait. The Forrest fans who came out last night were amazing. When I went to Mull of Kintyre to hear their song, they took me upstairs and took me to another level.

“It wasn’t realistic and I just want to thank everyone who came to support me.”

Conlan was taken to hospital after being kicked from a motorcycle circuit after being kicked out.

But as soon as she filled it up, the West Belfast boxer immediately demanded a second match.

He said on the second day of the fight, “I want a rematch. I think the game where I’m the leader on the cards deserves a rematch.

“I think I slept for an hour. I was looking at things on the phone. I wasn’t from social networks, so I saw everything and there were a lot of positive things.

“At the same time I am defeated. I am disgusted with losing. It is the worst feeling in the world for me.”
