The CSD allocates 187 million to sports federations until 2024

Date:

Council of Ministers approves new aid system, on a multi-year basis, aiming to match or exceed 22 Barcelona’92 medals at the Paris Games

The Higher Sports Council (CSD) will allocate almost €187 million in aid to the federations over the next three years (2022, 2023 and 2024), “with the aim of ensuring their economic stability and the continuity of their sports programs throughout the Olympic and Paralympic cycle, which will culminate in the Paris Games. The new aid system, approved on Tuesday by the Council of Ministers, will be multi-year for the first time, so that the federations can embark on the Olympic preparation, regardless of the country’s economic situation, “with greater certainty about the means by which to count.”

Sports budgets are therefore insured until 2024, regardless of the economic situation, something the unions have been asking for for a long time. The aid, amounting to 186,710,250 euros, will be distributed over three years and will be added to the 48 million from the Team Elite Spain program approved last February and the 16 million from 1% of the audiovisual rights of the football, which will be spent on the social protection of top athletes and the maintenance of ADO grants.

The regular grant, the largest received by the federations, will exceed EUR 57.8 million both this year and the next two years, for a total of EUR 173 million. “The bulk of the grants will go towards supporting and subsidizing the sports programs and activities of the federations so that Spanish athletes achieve the best possible sports results in the most relevant competitions out there – World Championships, European Championships and Olympic Games. Olympic and Paralympic Play -”, emphasized this Tuesday the CSD chaired by José Manuel Franco.

«The goal: to equal or exceed the medals won by Spain in Barcelona’92, if possible at the next Games in Paris. Throughout history, Spain has won 175 Olympic medals, but if the results achieved since Barcelona’92 are analyzed, it can be seen that our country has not changed from the sports data kept over time, and that it has by no means surpassed the 22 medals of the Games in which Spain achieved its best historical results,” the CSD recalled.

The multi-year economic processing for the next three years includes the rest of the usual CSD subsidies, for the National Program for Sports Technology and Sports Promotion amounting to 6.75 million euros; 4.5 million euros for spending in High Performance Centers and CAR in León; 1.5 million for sports facilities and equipment in CAR; and 300,000 euros to increase Spain’s presence in international federations.

Of the 16 million coming from audiovisual rights, eight will go to the grants of the ADO Olympic preparation program for 2022 (already last year the government covered almost 80% of the plan financially); four million to athletes participating in international competitions with the aim of improving their performance in the next Games; one million athletes support for sports results; and three million for social security contributions for elite athletes.
