This Sunday the World Indoor Athletics Championships ended in the city of Glasgow, Scotland. The first important athletic event of 2024 left great performances such as the world records achieved by Femke Bol in 400m and Devynne Charlton in the 60m hurdles, just five months before the start of the Paris Olympic Games.
The big winners of the World Cup are the USA with a total of 20 medals (6 gold, 9 silver, 5 bronze), followed by Belgium, New Zealand, the Netherlands and Ethiopia.
Christian Coleman at 60m, Bryce Hoppel at 800m, Grant Halloway in the 60m hurdles, Ryan Crouser in the shot put and Elle St. Pierre in the 3,000m they were the architects of 6 gold medals for the Americans.
Belgiumfor its part, achieved a creditable second place in the final medal table thanks to the 3 golds achieved by Noor Vidts in Pentathlon, Alexander Doom in the 400m and the men’s 4x400m relay.
Third place in the medal table went to New Zealandincluding the gold of Geordie Beamish at 1500m and Hamish Kerr in high jump plus silver Tom Walsh in the shot put and Eliza McCartney in the pole vault.
Spain did not revalidate the gold and silver medals achieved in the previous edition in Belgrade. The Spanish team finished in 26th place in the classification thanks to the two bronze medals won Ana Peleteiro in the triple jump and Fatima Diame in the long jump.
The bad news is that the serious injury of María Vicente, who ruptured the Achilles tendon on the left side while competing, and the hurdler Asier Martínez, was disqualified from the semifinals for a null start that the Spanish team appealed without success.
Teams from Benin, Estonia, Kenya, Korea, Portugal and Slovenia closed the medal table with one bronze medal each.
