Manuela Ladislau Faria, the mother of the current senator of Brazil Romario de Souza and a key figure during the former striker’s football career, has died aged 86.
“With infinite sadness and with great longing, I physically say goodbye to my great love, my queen, a woman who gave me life and guided me on the path of faithfulness,” Romario wrote in his social network.
Romário, who did not give details about the causes of death, said he felt “unexplainable” pain in saying goodbye to his mother, known to all as Mrs. Lita.
The 1994 World Cup anecdote

As a parliamentarian, he is an outstanding defender of the cause of children with disabilities and for his contributions to sports law, as well as his brutal attacks on football entities and leaders.
He currently combines his work as a senator with the president of the América club in Rio de Janeiro.
