In a statement released by the 25-year-old California-born defender, he said that “in September of last year I had an accident in training, a ball hit me very hard in the face and it affected my eyesight a lot.


“Unfortunately, my club didn’t give me the support I expected, I did not receive immediate attention and they did not care to address my vision loss in the following weeks. Therefore, I searched alone for a specialist and therapies in Mexico and the United States. Because I’m Mexican-American and not served in León. “I went home to Texas for a few weeks to get care,” she explained.

Also, Campa revealed that this incident cut short his dream of continuing to develop in football, explaining that “When I consulted the specialists, they told me that my disability was permanent, that I would never be able to play football again.”

The player said that “No one from the club staff came with me or helped me figure out what I should do, They don’t even ask me how I feel or if I need anything,” he said.

“More than seven months after my injury, I was tired and desperate, “I didn’t get the therapies and I didn’t get the attention I needed to get my eyes back. I want to go home to my family in Texas, but it seems like it’s going to be a long time,” he lamented.

Club León responded with a statement

León Femenil, for its part, denied that it did not support Ana Campa. Through an official six-point statement, the club Liga MX Femenil He argued that he knows the soccer player’s situation and “perfectly understands the situation that our player Ana Campa is in”:

1. “Ana’s injury was taken care of from the first moment of specialists from private institutions, providing timely follow-up to the Mexican Social Security Institute”.

2. “All consultations and medical history of this case can be found in the records of our medical service”.

3. “At each appointment required by IMSS to assess the clinical condition, diagnosis and medical-administrative follow-up, The staff from the León Club was there with Ana”.

4. “IMSS is the only institution that can determine the level of disability of our player: “We await a resolution.”

5. “Our internal protocols and those of the Mexican Soccer Federation, “They ask us to document and report to the relevant organization each of the processes in this type of damage.”
