Ruud imposed his law on the land of Madrid before Norrie

Date:

The Norwegian Casper Ruudfifth seed, applied his skills on the dirt in the clash against the British Cameron Norriewhich he defeated 6-2 and 6-4 to put themselves in round of 16 of the Madrid Masters 1,000where he will face the Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime.

Ruud, a finalist in the two clay tournaments held so far, with a victory in Barcelona a week ago but no victory in the Monte Carlo Masters 1,000, beaten by Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas, took 79 minutes to knock the Briton out again.

The Norwegian beat Norrie on three of the four occasions they met. All on hard court. But the latest, this year at the Australian Open, fell to the British side.

There is no question in Madrid, where Ruud is comfortable. He gave Norrie no options and reached the round of 16 to rectify the image of his last appearances. In 2022 and 2023 he did not win a game. He didn’t make it past the first round.

In this edition, he aims to at least equal the role of his first participation, in 2021, when he reached the semifinals, defeated by the Italian Matteo Berrettini.

Casper Ruud will face Canadian Felix Auger Alassime in the round of 16, who beat Czech Jakub Mensik, who retired with an injured right arm as the North American won 6-1 and 1-0.
