Apparently out of boredom, a 13-year-old in Burgenland took a car at the weekend and then raced down the highway at breakneck speed.
A 13-year-old boy who sparked a major police operation in Burgenland and Lower Austria this weekend apparently didn’t have much interest in football. The teenager was probably bored on Saturday afternoon during a match on the Kukmirn sports field and then went to the referee’s house. There he found the key to a linesman’s car and decided to take the vehicle for a “journey”.
Car gone, boy gone
Before the final whistle, both the car and the 13-year-old were gone. Despite a search, he and the car could not be found for the time being. Until the boy happened to be in Wr. on Sunday. Neustadt was discovered. However, the 13-year-old had no desire to give the vehicle back and then went on a wild chase with the police.
Escape at 180 km/h on the highway
He accelerated, drove onto the S4 and then continued on the A2 to the S6 towards Semmering. To avoid the police cars, he kept the accelerator fully depressed and sometimes drove at speeds of 160 to 180 km/h. Officers’ attempts to stop him failed. However, at Gloggnitz the boy lost his driving skills; he crashed into a guardrail at a construction site and damaged the car so badly that it could no longer drive.
Softgun and stun gun
Several police vehicles and even the Cobra took part in the chase. The boy was initially arrested. When officers searched the car after the crash, they found a soft pistol and a stun gun. It also turned out that the teenager had exchanged the car’s Burgenland license plate for a Styrian license plate. It is not yet clear where the license plate comes from. Since the 13-year-old is still of legal age, the “excursion” should not affect him.
