Scott McLaughlin was fastest this Sunday and will start on the pole next Sunday in the Indianapolis 500 in a first row all Team Penskeended by Will Power and Josef Newgarden.
The Spanish Álex Palou, reigning champion of the IndyCar championship, did not participate in this Sunday’s session after finishing fourteenth on Saturday.
This is the it’s only the second time Team Penske has achieved a hat trick at the Indy 500 after accomplishing it in 1988then with Rick Mearse, Danny Sullivan and Al Unser.
McLaughlin has an average speed of 234.220 miles per hour to take pole position.
“I’m very proud of having achieved it, I’m working hard. I wasn’t good at ‘Indy’ and a lot of that was my responsibility. I have to work and this is the first step,” McLaughlin said in statements provided by IndyCar.
