The Ecotrans Ladies Open in Berlin announced this Wednesday the withdrawal of Iga Swiatek. The Pole, who confirmed his participation even before his victory at Roland Garros on Saturday, lamented his absence from the German tournament.
“Due to general physical and mental exhaustion after 9 intense weeks, I unfortunately had to withdraw of the Berlin tournament to rest and recover” explained the world number 1 in a statement.
“I really want to play there in front of the fans, but I have to prioritize my health to be able to play the whole season without any problems” he added.
Despite Swiatek’s absence, the tournament will feature, from June 17 to 23, a luxury line-up. Eight of the top 10 will compete, in addition to Angelique Kerber, winner of Wimbledon 2018, and Naomi Osaka, two former world number 1s.
