Ana PeleteiroEuropean triple jump champion, stated this Thursday that one of the goals he has, beyond the results themselves, is the “legacy” he can leave as an athlete, and assured that, despite the record he has, she keeps motivated and has among her goals to reach other great athletes and references like Ruth Beitia to “try to be better than her one day.”
The Galician athlete is having a great 2024. In March he won a bronze medal at the Indoor World Championships in Glasgow and a few days ago he was proclaimed European outdoor champion in Rome. His next big goal is the Paris Olympic Games, although first, this Friday, he will compete in Madrid in the Vallehermoso rally.
“I’m calm now. The love I feel for my country is brutal, that’s why I always choose national competitions to compete. I want to go abroad but although I am Galician, I am an adopted daughter of Madrid. I came when I was sixteen years old. Now I’m looking forward to returning to Vallehermoso because last year was symbolic -after motherhood-. Tomorrow I want to scratch a few centimeters from the jump in Rome,” said Peleteiro, referring to the 14.85 meters that gave him victory in the Italian city.
The Spanish athlete achieved his two best jumps of the season at the Indoor World Championships and the European Championships in Rome, something of a contrast to the rallies, where he recently won with a more cautious score.
“The fact of having the European Championship in June helped me see that I was ready. “I conform to what is needed, I think I should work on it in the coming years to see how Yulimar Rojas gives a show, although this is my double-edged sword and I can use it to achieve great goals,” he said.
“My goal on a personal level as an athlete, and I talk about it with Iván Pedroso (coach), is that It’s cool to break records, although all we’re left with is the legacy, how the athlete feels on the track and off. “I think we have been building my character quite organically and I like it,” he noted.
“I’m not close to being the best athlete in history and I never will be, but I’m sure people will remember Ana Peleteiro for many years. To this day I am still motivated and there are always people you want to reach and try to be better than her one day, like Ruth Beitia. There is no envy in me, what is the desire to reach the people I admire,” he said.
“Life smiled on me because I have no bad feelings towards others. I am in a moment of full life, no bad vibes, there are people I admire and why not fight and be better than them. There’s Ana Peleteiro for a while, even as far as Los Angeles, and then we’ll talk. For now, I will do everything to make Spain’s record longer than fifteen meters in one day,” he concluded.
