The goalkeeper of Barça and the Spanish handball team, Gonzalo Pérez de Vargaswas assured the national team is “capable of competing against anyone”as long as it’s a group, because when they do “good things the word group grows” and they’re “a tough team to beat.”
In statements to journalists, Pérez de Vargas assessed this Friday, at the Handball Campus organized by the Board of Communities and which has a name in Toledo, the sensations of the Spanish handball team for the Olympic Games, which will be held from July 26 until August 11 in Paris.
The Barça goalkeeper emphasized that they do not have the squad like other teams or the physique of France or Denmark, “definitely the favourites”but he added: “We are a team that when we do well, the word team gets around and we are a tough team to beat.”
Also, he said that they only trained for a week, but it was “very intense” and helped everyone to adapt “and put on their overalls to work”, as part of the squad trains for two weeks and the other has just finished the season, as is the case of Pérez de Vargas, who was proclaimed European champion with Barça on June 9 for the fifth time in his career.
The Hispanics will debut on July 27 at 9 am against Sloveniaa match where Pérez de Vargas hopes the schedule will not “affect them.”
“We have the added difficulty that this match is at nine o’clock in the morning, in an Olympic event, which forces you, perhaps because of protocols and timing, to get up before six o’clock in the morning, so we hope that , then , it doesn’t affect us much,” he concluded.
