The Russian Olympic Committee (COR) paid compensation of more than 200 million rubles (more than 2 million dollars) to 245 athletes who were not authorized to compete at the Paris Olympic Games, according to the general director of COR, Vladimir Sengléev.
“We paid more than 200 million rubles to 245 athletes who were not allowed to participate in the Olympic Games“, the official told the RIA Nóvosti agency.
He pointed out that these are athletes who did not receive a license to participate in international competitions and those who did not achieve neutral status to compete in Paris.
So far, only 16 Russian athletes have confirmed their participation in the Paris Olympics.which will take place from July 26 to August 11, compared to the 335 athletes who competed in the 2021 Tokyo Games.
At the same time, in recent weeks, both Russian wrestlers and judokas authorized to participate in Paris 2024 will not attend the Games due to the “unsporting criteria” applied by the International Olympic Committee when selecting Russian athletes.
