Marcellus’s legacy

Date:

Marcelo Vieira left Real Madrid as one of the greatest legends in 120 white club history. No one has won more titles than him (25) and very few, very few football players have sparked such unity and excitement at the Santiago Bernabéu. Loved by all Real Madrid, Marcelo’s free and reckless football, his explosions of genius on the ball and his hunger for success will be told from generation to generation and re -evaluated by those nostalgic for his game , to be legion. That’s the legacy left by Marcelo, a player who has fully assimilated what it means to represent Real Madrid. His most recent service to the goal is to deliver to the youngest or newcomers what he has sucked in 16 seasons.

That’s the great other legacy Marcelo wants to claim in his emotional farewell, nothing to do with the cold and pandemic action where the white club and Sergio Ramos parted their paths just a year ago. It’s not true that Madrid doesn’t know how to say goodbye to its legends, what happens sometimes is that there are some legends that don’t know how to say goodbye to Madrid. This happened to Ramos and also to Iker Casillas, (his last wish was to appear alone at a press conference) and of course to Cristiano Ronaldo, whose excessive ego ruined the celebrations for the Champions League in kyiv.

The Brazil captain, who has obviously dropped since the break due to confinement, was able to step aside, accept a second role and help the team from a different position. And when the time came to say goodbye, he assumed it with pride and raised his head and no one should blame himself. In peace with self.

On the field of soccer, there is no doubt that Marcelo has become one of the best players in the history of Madrid, an absolutely important figure whose influence on the game (and on the results) has been decisive in understanding why the white club the second golden age

But it wasn’t just the dribbling, the goals, the magic or the victories, even 25 titles, that brought Marcelo to the status of legend. This is something that is much harder to explain for a madridista, especially to someone who is not. It’s the connection with the fans, the respect for the club, the awareness of being a madridista and of knowing how to deliver it and of representing the institution wonderfully in hardship and comfort. This is Marcelo’s legacy.
