He General director of La Vuelta, Javier Guillényesterday confirmed the existence of the first swords as a Slovenian Primoz Roglic –triple winner of La Vuelta, 2019, 2020, 2021 and 3rd in 2023–, Juan Ayuso –3rd in 2022 and 4th in 2023–, Mikel Landa (5th in 2023– and the American Sepp Kuss, won last year.
It should be noted that both Roglic and Ayuso did not have the Tour they wanted. The Slovenian keeps his bad attitude to Large Boucle and he ended up retiring after not being able to recover from the physical consequences caused by the fall and the Barcelona-born cyclist got off the bike due to Covid.
Guillén, logically following the information coming from the Tour, did not secure the Dane Jonas Vingegaard and the Slovenian Tadej Pogacar. Jonas is about to become a father and Tadej could be the only cyclist to win the Giro d’Italia, the Tour de France in the same season – he already has it – and the Vuelta, if he competes here. For ‘Pogi’ this will be the second presence in the Spanish round, after being 3rd in 2019 – and the third for Jonas, after being 2nd in 2023.
The Vuelta will start on August 17 in Lisbon (Portugal) and end on September 8 in Madrid.
Guillén made these remarks within the framework of the presentation of the 18th stage of the Vuelta, which will be run in full in Alava.
