Jon Rahm declared this Thursday, after scoring 67 strokes (4 under par) at the start of the golf tournament at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, that It was “a good first day, a good result.”
“It was a good first day, a good result. It’s a shame because I had good moments… but the shot on 16 was difficult for me because if I had gone on the green I would have finished five under par or six on under par . . . though, it was a good day,” Rahm said of the hole he ended up in the water.
The Biscayan hopes that “no mistakes will be made for the rest of the week”, although he pointed out that what happened on Thursday were “not terrible things” and “they are mistakes that happen” but they are not “worried to him”.
Regarding the great reception from the public at Le Golf National, Rahm commented: “I didn’t expect the noise there and I didn’t think they would give me my welcome on the first tee.. “It is very emotional that so many Spaniards and, moreover, many non-Spanish people support me.”
“The fans are incredible, especially Matthieu (Pavon) behind me, who looks enthusiastic. “It’s great fun and the truth is that the French public always treats me well and loves me very much,” he added.
Regarding his busy tournament schedule, Rahm said: “I’ve had three really good weeks (including a win on the LIV Tour last week). There’s some fatigue going into the fourth week in a row, but I have enough motivation to cope with it.”
He also spoke about the state of the field: “If it’s not raining you’d be surprised how hard it can be, especially if it’s windy.. If it’s as soft as it is now, nothing can be done because they are the best in the world. It’s a course where you should hit 15-20 under par, but the weather can change a lot and a lot of us would like to see it more difficult.”
