Madrid, August 11 (EFE).- Marbella boxer Ayoub Ghadfa said this Sunday upon his arrival in Madrid after winning the silver medal in the +92 kilo boxing category at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, that he and his compatriot Enmanuel Reyes Pla , bronze at -92, “showed that Spanish boxing is up, up and up.”
“I am very happy. One always goes for gold, but thank God we have performed well, we have had good fights, we have been very, very good and on par with everyone. We have shown that Spanish boxing is on the up, up and up,” Ghadfa said.
Regarding how he is assimilating his silver medal, Ghadfa said: “I rested a little because between ‘doping’, dinner, we left the villa early… I hardly slept, but I gradually assimilation. It’s an Olympic medal. It’s what any athlete wants and I’m very proud of myself.
Referring to the support received from Spain in general, his native Marbella in particular and the support of his parents in Paris, Ayoub Ghadfa commented: “I have felt tremendous support in all the matches. I really appreciate the support from Marbella. My parents appreciate it. “They are everything to me. They are the pillars of my life and having them there is a great pleasure.”
Enmanuel Reyes Pla was “happy with this reception” at the Madrid airport, he said: “We are seeing that boxing is picking up and that people are liking it, so I am super happy with that.”
“A bit disappointed because the fight I did was about fighting for gold. But happy because we broke the Spanish drought in boxing. We achieved two medals in the same Olympics, something that has never been achieved. Boxing is very high here in Spain,” added the boxer.
Reyes Pla believes that a good job is doing in Spanish boxing: “The work of the coaches is being very good. We are doing a very hard job. Mentally we are not preparing for this competition. I believe that (the Games in) The Paris was made for us, to achieve those medals.
He also emphasized that he achieved this on the center court at Roland Garros. “We left the flag high like Rafa Nadal did,” he said.
“We worked hard to achieve this and I believe that the Spanish responded to us in the best way. I believe that in Los Angeles there can be up to two golds and there will be more medals,” he commented. EFE
