An established Viennese as a good friend: After the death of Richard “Mörtel” Lugner (91), Upper Austria is also mourning the entrepreneur. He was a guest in our state time and again, for example when felling a Christmas tree for his Lugner City or most recently at Heino’s farewell concert.
When Richard Lugner (91), who died on Monday in Vienna-Döbling, turned up in Upper Austria, photographers and social reporters were also queuing up here: ‘Mörtel’ loved our state, had friends here and could always be seen. For example in Nußdorf am Attersee, where he had a Christmas tree felled for his Lugner City in Vienna. “He even helped himself. Of course, only for the photo,” says a reporter who was there at the time with a smile.
He took the hands of Heinos Hannelore ()
The builder’s last documented visit to Upper Austria took place in October 2019. Pop singer Heino invited people to his very last concert in the Linz Arena. Clapping in the front row: Richard Lugner. A photo shows the now deceased taking the hands of Heino’s wife Hannlore () and greeting her warmly. They were friends, on stage and off.
In 2014, the construction lion danced with his fifth wife Cathy in the Linzer Alm in the Passage. The two-year anniversary took place and the presence of the club couple guaranteed a mating in all of Austria. In 2010, Richard Lugner was a guest at the Empire St. Martin, where operator Stefan Süß invited people to the tenth anniversary. At his side at the time: his girlfriend Katzi, real name Anastasia Sokol.
Rushing through Plus City in a racing car
The club icon was always a regular guest at the Cart Trophy in Plus City in Pasching. With Christina “Mausi” Lugner at his side, he drove through the modern shopping center in a racing car. And always for a good cause. That was at the end of April 2007. A few months later, the dream couple divorced. A year later, Lugner returned to Upper Austria for the charity event. This time with his new “Mausi”, namely Bettina Kofler. Only six months after this performance, it was over between them and they announced their separation.
Lugner’s dream: to be the first man in the state
Upper Austrians treated Lugner on a completely different level in 1998 and 2016: he ran for election as Federal President as a non-party candidate. On 19 April 1998, the race was won by Dr. Thomas Klestil, followed in 2016 by the great election debacle with repeated rounds of voting, which was ultimately won by Alexander Van der Bellen.
7.81 percent of the votes in Upper Austria
But in any case: in 1998, 55,313 Upper Austrians (7.81 percent) checked the name Ing. Richard Lugner on the ballot paper, in 2016 there were only 14,259 votes (1.90 percent) for him from our state.
