Four Mexican tennis players and an Ecuadorian were suspended, with sentences of up to five years, for a match-fixing network that took place between 2017 and 2018.
As explained by International Agency for Tennis Integrity (ITIA), all charges relate to fixing match results, facilitating bets, accepting money for fixing and failing to report attempted match purchases.
The penalties relate to a criminal case involving a settlement syndicate Belgium and which led to a five-year prison sentence for its leader, Grigor Sargsyan.
The Ecuadorian Ivan Endara36, ranked 367th in the world in July 2015, received a five-year suspension and a $15,000 fine. His suspension began on July 26, 2024 and will last until July 25, 2029.
The Mexican Mauricio Reséndiz Domínguez29, who was ranked 1,305th in the world in October 2016, received a five-year suspension and a $15,000 fine. You cannot compete from July 15, 2024 to July 15, 2029.
The Mexican Raúl Isaías Rosas-Zarur35, who was ranked 1,425th in the world in March 2018, received a five-year suspension and a $15,000 fine. The suspension took effect on July 24, 2024 and will last until July 23, 2029.
The Mexican Ivar Aramburu Contreras30 years old, ranked 1,244 in August 2022, received a suspension of two years and two months, as well as a fine of 44,000 dollars, of which 30,800 is suspended if he does not reoffend. The non-play ban began on January 8, 2024 and expires on March 7, 2026.
Finally, the Mexican Aitor Aramburu Contreras32 years old and ranked 1,663 in the world in March 2018, received a ban of one year and ten months and a fine of 36,000 dollars, of which 25,200 was suspended. The suspension began on February 8, 2024 and will end on December 7, 2025.
During the suspension, these players are prohibited from playing, training or attending any event sanctioned or organized by ITIA members (ATP, WTA, ITF and the federations of Australia, France, the United Kingdom and the United States).
