David Godziekslopestyle world champion in 2024, has achieved a historic milestone in mountain biking: riding a bicycle on a moving train.
In a world-first feat, created in collaboration with Prada Linea Rossa, Godziek rode an unprecedented mountain bike course built on top of a high-speed train. He traveled well 10 cars at a speed of 23 km/h while performing some of the sport’s most astonishing tricks, all captured in an amazing “freeze frame” effect.
Dawid Godziek’s Incredible Milestone: Moving Train Training with Unreleased Tricks
Dawid Godziek achieved a historic feat by being the first cyclist to complete a mountain bike course on a moving trainwhich reaches a speed of 23 km/h. The course, which spans 10 cars and features eight jumps, is specifically designed to test precision and balance in movement, demonstrating impressive technical skill. Additionally, by synchronizing his speed with the moving train, Godziek created a “freeze frame” visual effect, a shocking sight for the audience. Among the tricks he performed were a double tailwhip, frontflip, and the first flat fall backflip off the ladder of the last car, showing off his incredible skills.
This ambitious project was carried out in collaboration with Prada Linea Rossa and had the support of Grupa Azoty Koltar and PKP Polish State Railways, a combination of engineering and athletic excellence. Szymon Godziek, his brother and also a mountain bike champion, praised Dawid’s ambition and dedication to always pushing the limits.
The details of this historic victory
The vision was clear, to build the world’s first mountain bike track on a moving train. Making this ambitious idea a reality, the Polish cyclist succeeded in the challenging course. With a 2.7 meter wide runway, possible gusts of wind and limited reference points, the technical demands are enormous, but Godziek’s champion-level abilities made the seemingly impossible possible, possible.
“At first, I practiced driving on the tracks while the train was parked. When I felt safe, we started the train and gradually picked up speed. 23 kilometers per hour is the appropriate speed of movement to match my riding speed to create the sensation of riding in one position. That fixed background impression is weird. Making this smooth journey is more difficult than it seems,” said Godziek.
To perfect this pioneering achievement, the pilot made 15 attempts, finally achieving the intended “frozen” video effect that left viewers speechless.
“We are dealing here with the principle of Galilean relativity. When a train moves in one direction at a constant speed, and Dawid traveling in the other direction maintains a similar speed, a camera on one side keeps to the traveler in a frame. static at all times. It’s a bit like old-school computer games, where the background scrolls and the player always stays in the center of the screen.“explains Dawid Myśliwiec, creator of popular science videos.
Godziek didn’t just jump on the bandwagon, he led it. His journey includes amazing tricks like a double tailwhip, frontflip and the world’s first flat drop backflip to a flat landing from the ladder of the last car. His older brother accompanied him to filmmaking, Szymon, an accomplished freestyle MTB rider and Red Bull Rampage podium finisher.
“Dawid is at his peak performance. In 2024, he topped the podium at the FMB World Tour in Cairns, Innsbruck and Whistler. I’m glad he still has the passion to do unconventional things and push the limits, no.” in official competitions only. Red Bull Bike Express It was a crazy and technically challenging project. I hope the video can inspire people to get into mountain biking,” Szymon said.
The Red Bull Bike Express ride is a marvel of engineering, built on 10 train cars provided by Azoty Koltar Grupa. It featured 8 jumps, a roller, and a stair descent, all aboard Godziek’s custom Specialized bike fitted with Continental tires.
Filming took place in Upper Silesia with the support of PKP Polish State Railways SA, which was the first Polish sports project made in collaboration with Prada Linea Rossa: The champion is equipped with garments that allow freedom of movement, comfort and high-performance functionality, in an ongoing partnership with Red Bull that supports difficult challenges and the athletes who dare to accept those this.
