Tribute to Paralympic medalist Daniel Caverzaschi

The Spanish tennis player Daniel Caverzaschi received an award this Tuesday at the academy of Emilio Sánchez Vicario to celebrate his bronze medal at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games with Martin de la Puente in the doubles modality in wheelchair tennis. A historic milestone for Spanish sport, as it is the first time this achievement has been achieved.

The event was attended by the Founding CEO of the Emilio Sánchez Academy, Emilio Sánchez Vicariowho presented a commemorative plaque to Caverzaschi. “It’s a story of inspiration, managing resilience and breaking down barriers. Dani has made her history and that should be celebrated” said Emilio Sánchez Vicario.

“I was lucky to meet him from the start and help him get to London 2012, which is his dream. Then we continued to maintain a relationship thanks to the tournaments organized by my foundation in Madrid and Barcelona and when he was injured and had to decide whether to come back or retire. The academy became his second home and he became close, a friend to the students and a constant example. We share the same values ​​and we want to give him the welcome he deserves,” recalled the tennis legend.

With their coaches Stefan Ortega and Alex Gaspa and surrounded by students, teachers and workers of the academy and school, an intense emotional moment was experienced in their academy. Daniel Caverzaschi was emotional about this victory after returning from an injury last year.

“This victory in Paris is very important for me, it has been a difficult year and a half and, as my motto says, it has been worth it,” said Daniel Caverzaschi. Regarding the academy, he says that “I really feel like I am part of a family and this victory belongs to the entire team. I am very happy here and I want to serve as an example to the children in the academy, where I live and train. Our comeback this year is definitely something to celebrate,” continued the Paralympic medalist.

Also, Caverzaschi pointed out that “sport has a tremendous transformative power, not only in physical terms, but also in social terms. I hope that my story and this achievement can serve to encourage more more people to believe in their abilities, regardless of the obstacles that stand in their way.”

This recognition coincides with the start of the Emilio Sánchez Academy course, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary.
