Chivas del Guadalajara announced this Thursday the departure of the Argentine Fernando Gago as coach of his first team and everything indicates that his next destination is the Boca Juniors bench, to be replaced Diego Martínez, who resigned.
In a press release in which he announced his departure, the Mexican club said Gago “He informed the board of directors of his decision to return to Argentina with his coaching staff.”
He played in two spells at Boca
Since last week, Gago’s name has been linked to Boca, although he has denied having any contact with his country’s club. The former Argentine midfielder played for the Xeneize team in two periods (2004-2006 and 2013-2019) and also played for Real Madrid and Valencia.
From his arrival in Guadalajara in January, Gago achieved 17 wins, nine draws and 12 losses, and reached the semifinals of the last tournament, Clausura 2024, Argentina’s first in charge of Chivas.
In the current Apertura 2024, the second club with the most titles in Mexico is in ninth place, with 15 points, in danger of being left in the final stage.
“In a short time, our new coach will be announced, who will take the position with the permanent leadership and commitment required by the sports project and the team,” Chivas reported.
