In recent weeks, we have talked about the good moments that players like Sancet, Vivian or Jauregizar are having. However, there are others who haven’t taken off yet and are having a hard time getting into the swing of things. This is the case of the signatories Djaló and Gorosabel.
At first, expectations were high, but at the moment they were not met. After a superb preseason, the former Sporting de Braga player saw his state of grace slowed down by an injury, and has since been unable to recapture the sensations he left in his first games. A situation which, added to his limited participation and the bitter taste left by his last appearances, meant that his first months as a red and white player did not go as expected.
Gorosabel’s debut was a bit better, but still far from getting a starting position. In his case, the lack of minutes and De Marcos’ excellent form weighed heavily on him.
The man from Mondragon has a long way to go because it is not easy to replace a player like the Alava player, who, despite his seniority, continues to play like a child.
In addition to the newcomers, another one of the football players who in my opinion does not leave the expected sensations is Unai Gómez. Last season he made his debut in the first team and we were surprised by his determination, dedication and quality. However, this year he seems to be playing at a slower pace, something that usually happens during the times he starts as a starter.
From what we’ve seen, it looks like Bermeo works better as a revulsive. His performance is best when he takes the field from the bench. Furthermore, he plays better as a midfielder and not as a playmaker.
The specific situations of these players, however, should not worry us too much. In the case of Djaló and Gorosabel, I think it’s a matter of time before they adapt to Athletic’s game and get minutes, given the number of games. Unai Gómez, for his part, has proven more than capable and he just needs to rediscover his best version and get comfortable on the field.
