On Saturday, October 12, the legendary Streif in Kitzbühel will once again be the scene of a spectacle that will leave even the most hardcore sports fans breathless: in the 4th “World Extreme Run Challenge”, around 200 participants will take on one of the toughest running routes in the world. world.
The challenge? 8.8 kilometers up and down the steepest parts of the famous ski slope – including 950 meters of elevation gain! It starts at 11am directly in the center of Kitzbühel.
Only the strongest conquer the Streif
The whole thing is organized by the ‘sports4everybody’ association around extreme athlete Sepp Resnik, who launched the event for a good cause. The proceeds go to supporting young talents and social sports projects. There will be prominent sports greats present such as marathon record holder Julia Mayer, mountain bike professional Lukas Kaufmann, world boxing champion Michaela Kotásková and the strongest man in the world, Franz Müllner.
The participants know that the route offers a unique experience: the legendary Streif is only open from the infamous finish jump on this one day! Last year it became clear how extreme the route is: as soon as you reach the top, your muscles are burning and the mousetrap with an 85 percent gradient challenges even the toughest runners. But it remains a unique experience that is unparalleled, as ‘Krone’ reporter Clemens Linhart experienced last year.
In addition to the sporting highlight, there is also a supporting program this year: on Friday evening, October 11, football expert Heinz Palme will open the event with a book presentation in the “Phönix am Hornplatzl”. On race day itself, an Oktoberfest-style after-race party creates a lively atmosphere.
