One of the great novelties this season in the First Division is the semi-automatic offsideknown as SAOT, a technology that from next season is also intended to be installed in the Second Division and will join the VARwhich has been applied to our competition since the 2018-2019 season in the First Division and one season later in the Silver category.
This past week, and as MD learned, the Appointed Commission of RFEF conducted a change in the First and Second Divisions of competition rules of special importance, including VAR and semi-automatic offside as protagonists.
Depending on the transformation applied, at any time may be suspended or delayed there is no match in either of the two categories of professional football should they arise issues using these technologies.
It literally says “a party cannot be delayed or suspended temporarily or permanently due to a problem with VAR or SAOT technology preventing their use”
When this happens, the match referee must let it be known of both teams. Either by notifying them that the match will be played without either of the two technologies (in the case of the First Division) or when the incident that may occur and affect the operation of either of them is resolved. “When the referee team becomes aware of a failure affecting these technologies, it must be communicated immediately to both teams, as well as the moment in which the technology is working again.”
This modification of the Spanish standard is adopted in accordance with what is included in VAR protocol of the International Board. What is clear is that VAR will never delay or suspend a match in our competition.
