The French Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard reached at Basel his second final of the year and also of his career, to play against the American Ben Shelton, after defeating the Dane Holger Runefourth favorite, extending his spell at the Swiss tournament where he did not finish victorious.
The Dane, without titles in 2024 and the Adelaide final as his best record, stumbled again in the semifinals, as in 2023, surpassed by the Canadian Felix Auger Aliassime, who also beat him in the same scenario, but in 2022 final.
The 21-year-old Frenchman won 7-6(6) and 6-4 in eighty minutes and now aims to extend his record and add Basel to the victory in Lyon, his hometown and his only victory.
Mpetshi Perricard, who until arriving in Basel had won only two of his last eleven matches, will face American Ben Shelton in the final, sixth seed, who defeated Frenchman Arthur Fils 6-3 and 7-6( 9) and reached Basel in the third final of his career in search of his third title on the ATP circuit.
