It is a typical tradition in these communities and this Wednesday the company ‘caganer.com’ presented its new products for Christmas 2024, with Robert Lewandowski and Dani Olmo as the debuts in the key of FC Barcelona. The two Barça players already have their figurines and culés who want to have them in their homes in the manger can now buy them.
This figure is usually placed in mangers or nativity scenes with other nativity figures, but in a hidden place or away from the others, as if hidden in some corner of the landscape.
The ‘caganer’ is a figure of a peasant with a typical red barretina (traditional Catalan hat) in a strange position, bent over and defecating. Its origins date back to the 17th or 18th century, and it is believed to represent a symbol of fertility, luck and prosperity for the coming year. In addition to its traditional version, thanks to ‘caganer.com’, in recent decades, the ‘caganers’ of famous people, politicians and celebrities have appeared, making it a symbol in Catalonia at Christmas.
