The president of the Association of Spanish Footballers (AFE), David Aganzosaid on Monday that the call for a players’ strike in protest against the saturation of the calendar was something that was not thought through and that a solution required a consensus between all parties involved.
Due to complaints from some players about the accumulation of matches, Aganzo bowed because all the institutions “calmed down” this situation to find a negotiated solution instead of resorting to more extreme measures.
“The issue of unemployment is a complex situation. As president of AFE, I have to look after the interests of footballers. We have to see which competition will stop, in which country it will stop. It’s a more legal issue (…) It’s a common sense situation. We don’t need to go on any strike when I believe that common sense should prevail,” he asserted. Aganzo.
The AFE president made these statements to journalists before the annual Marca newspaper awards gala held at the Ciudad del Fútbol of the Royal Spanish Football Federation, in the Madrid town of Las Rozas.
In his opinion, the players pay with injuries and the physical wear and tear of the injuries for the rigorous schedule, which is why it influenced the need “make a decision together to stop it.”
