Ronald Koeman yesterday explained why he didn’t call Memphis Depay (30) for the Nations League against Hungary (Tuesday) and Bosnia and Herzegovina (Saturday). The Dutch coach made it clear that he still does not see the former FC Barcelona striker fit, despite his good performance in Corinthians Brazilian.
“In my opinion, he is still not good or fit enough. You can see that he is getting better, but we also know that he must improve in some things,” said the national coach at a press conference in Zeist. “We started the Nations League in September and now we have reached the final block, with the last two games. The next cycle continues on March. If it continues like this, it could appear again before that date. We talk about it, I have many contacts with”.
Koeman said Depay hopes to return to the Dutch team. The former PSV player is looking for the first place in the ranking of the Netherlands’ all-time top scorers. Depay has scored 46 goals and is second, four goals behind Robin van Persie.
