Armani led River Plate’s sweaty victory in La Plata

River Plate returned to winning ways by winning 2-1 as visitors to Students of La Plata on the twenty-fifth day of the Argentine league. River, who just lost to Independiente Rivadavia, are in fifth place in the table with 39 points, six behind leaders Vélez Sarsfield and four below runner-up Huracán.

In the match played in the city of La Plata, Marcelo Gallardo’s team took an early advantage with goals from Facundo Colidio and Maximiliano Meza in the fourth and ninth minutes, respectively. Estudiantes scored in the 60th minute through experienced scorer Guido Carrillo. Six minutes later, goalkeeper Franco Armani saved a penalty from Carrillo that prevented the home team from leveling.

San Lorenzo lost again

In Friday’s other game, San Lorenzo de Almagro added a second consecutive home defeat with a 2-0 defeat against Belgrano at the Pedro Bidegain stadium. “Teams that are strong at home make the difference, you have to know how to handle the pressure of the people.
