The captain of City of Manchester, Alex Greenwoodunderwent surgery after suffering a medial collateral ligament injury in last week’s 2-0 victory over Austrian side St Polten in the Women’s Champions League, the club said on Thursday.
The English defender will continue her recovery by working closely with the club’s medical team, the Women’s Super League (WSL) club said in a statement. The 31-year-old international left a message to say he will work hard to get back on the field as soon as possible.
“Not the end of 2024 that I planned,” he wrote on Instagram. “For now, I will take time for myself and my family, who always take time for me. Thanks for all the support this year, see you soon.”
