The ethics committee of the Iranian Football Federation summoned an international player for hugging a fan on Thursday before a league championship match he played with his team, Esteghlal, against Chardomalu, according to the news agency this Friday.
The player in question is Ramin Rezaeian, 34-year-old right back who has played 63 games for the Iranian national team. After playing for other teams in the country, last summer he came to Esteghlal in Tehran from Sepahan. He has also been in Qatari (Al Shahania, Al Duhail and Al Sailiya) and Belgian (Oostende) football.
According to Islamic law in force in Iran since the 1979 revolution, A man cannot have physical contact with a woman outside the family circle. Furthermore, the presence of women in a stadium in Iran has been banned for decades.
A precedent last April
Last April, Hossein Hosseini, Esteghlal goalkeeper, was suspended after hugging a fan during a championship match.
The media indicated that the Federation also imposed a fine of 300 million Tomans (4,400 euros) for “misbehavior with security agents during the match.”
