The municipal elections in Lower Austria will take place in just under a month. On this occasion, the “Krone” analyzes the situation of the parties represented in the State Parliament before this important plebiscite. At the start of the series we highlight the Greens and NEOS. Although the small parties are stuck in opposition nationally, they play a larger role in many communities. Where can you actively participate?
Citizen lists do not play a major role in state politics. But in many Lower Austrian communities, these regional initiatives, which are usually centered around well-known personalities, are firmly anchored in political events. However, these lists are not reflected much in the national balance sheet. This shows how different the municipal elections are from all other elections in the republic. This is why the two small parties – the Greens and NEOS – sometimes play a significantly larger role in local parliaments than in the state parliament. A new ‘Krone’ series will therefore shed light on the significance of the municipal elections on January 26, 2025 for the states parties.
