Bautista Agut forgave and fell in the first round of the Australian Open

The Spanish Roberto Bautista Agut fell this Tuesday in the first round of the Australian Open against Canadian Denis Shapovalov in four set matches (3-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6(8)-7), after missing four chances to extend the match into the fifth set.

Roberto Bautista Agut returned to the Australian Open, the scene where he reached the quarterfinals in 2019, and he did it in the best way, taking the first set against the Canadian.

With strong performances, Bautista Agut saved decisive points forced by Shapovalov and ended up 3-6 which made things difficult for the Canadian from the start.

The match would rise to the level in the second set, with Shapovalov refusing to relinquish the initiative, despite losing his serve early on.

In another point of intensity and transfer of Bautista Agut from side to side, Shapovalov turned the match around and went two breaks aheadclosing the set with a blank game to seal 4-6.

He third set The same dynamic followed. Shapovalov saved all the breaking points that Roberto Bautista gave him and dynamite the match based on direct services. He scored four aces in the third round and 24 in the entire match.

Roberto Bautista did not comply with Shapovalov’s demands and entered the final set with a double 6-4 match.

The final set seemed so close that none of the 6 break points occurred. Neither Bautista nor Shapovalov dropped their serve, which inevitably led to a painful tie break.

Roberto Bautista had four set points to extend the match until a certain fifth round, but failed in all attempts. And the Canadian, who saw how he was forgiven so many times, ended up serving the sentence on the second match point he had.

The Canadian will face Italian Lorenzo Musseti in the second round.
