Serious damage to Brighton. Their promising midfielder Jakub Moder suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee on Saturday in the Premier League against Norwich (0-0) and will be out for nearly six months.
Depending on his recovery, the 22-year-old will see his participation in the Qatar 2022 World Cup with the Polish national team in jeopardy. The tournament will be played from November 21 to December 18 next.
Moder had to retire in the 88th minute of the game and in his absence Brighton, 13th in the Premier, lost one of their key players. This season he has played 32 games in all competitions and scored two goals.
“It was a devastating blow for Jakub,” Brighton manager Graham Potter said. “He has made great progress for us this season and has played a big part in helping Poland qualify for the World Cup with a win against Sweden.”
“Everyone wants to know how long he’s going to be out of the game. It’s too early to think, even though he’s facing a significant period of rehabilitation,” said a cautious Potter.
Starter in the playoffs who gave a pass to Poland
Last Tuesday Moder played 90 minutes in Poland-Sweden (1-0) which gave his country a passport to Qatar in the playoffs finals. In Friday’s draw, the Polish team was included in group C along with Argentina, Mexico and Saudi Arabia.
Moder joined Brighton from Lech Poznan in October 2020 and signed a five -year deal.
