The Basque signed his card of six birdies for two bogeys and a double bogey on this first day, where he played on the morning shift, with sun and little wind only at the end of his route, and covered the temporarily top 20, 3 strokes from the leader to the clubhouse, the South African Justin Harding (65).
Rahm started the round on the 10th hole, a par 5 that he covered with 6 strokes (bogey), but recovered the pulse of his card with three birdies on 11, 13 and 14. He also failed to birdie in the second par. 5 of this second half of the field, but on the birdie at age 17, he put himself at -3 overall and temporarily tied at third.
On his 9th hole (the 18th of the course) he scored a double bogey-6 after missing a three-point green and unable to chip and putt, dropping to 19th place. Two birdies and a bogey from 1 to 9 put him a total of -2 on the day, a lap better than his teammates showed, the World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler (73, +3) and Norwegian Viktor Hovland (74, +4).

Note that the Scottish Open shares three places for the British. The three best classified not yet exempt for Saint Andrews will achieve the long -awaited exemption for the final Grand Slam of 2022.
