Álex Palou (Chipsei) became the first Spanish on Sunday to conquer the 500 miles of Indianapolis and closed the triple crown of Spanish motor racing, which had already looked at the successes in the Montecarlo Grand Prix of Formula 1 and in Le Mans’ 24 hours, the other two great ‘monument’ of motoring.
Palou, a native of the Sant Antoni de Vilamajor (Barcelona), announced the champion of the 109 edition of the 500 miles of Indianapolis leading Swedish Marcus Ericsson and signed his fifth success in six races played up to the Indycar 2025 championship, the top of the United States motor racing.
Catalan adds this way to Spanish motorcycle myths such as Fernando Alonso, Marc Gené and Miguel Molina. The first conquered the Montecarlo Grand Prix of Formula 1, in 2005 and 2006, and won twice in Le Mans, in 2018 and 2019. The second loser in Le Mans in 2009, and Miguel Molina did so in 2024.
