The facade of Orlando PrideMarta, was not released after having a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in her left knee at the March 26 Pride game at the North Carolina Courage. Following the injury, Marta was placed on the disabled list at the end of the season.
“We’re really sorry for Marta,” Orlando Pride CEO Ian Fleming said. “He is an incredible leader and of course we will miss him on the field this season. But anyone who knows Marta knows she will face this challenge directly, as she does in every training session or every game, and we know she will do everything to continue leading the team off the pitch. We hope we can help him with this recovery so that he comes back stronger.
Marta will undergo surgery at Orlando Health’s Jewett Orthopedic Institute, which will be performed by Dr. Craig Mintzer, Pride’s medical director and chief orthopedic surgeon.
