Uriah Renniethe first black judge of Premier LeagueHe died at the age of 65, as the soccer association of the county of Sheffield and Hallashire was announced Sunday. Rennie, who was born in Jamaica and grew up in Sheffield, made history in 1997 by shooting a premier league match between Derby County and Wimbledon. He has directed more than 300 games, including 175 in the highest English football categories.
“We are very sad to know about the death of our former president and a leadership, Uriah Rennie,” the organization told social networks. “We have been with Uriah’s family and friends at these difficult times.”
Rennie retired in 2008 and spent 15 years before another black jury pointed to a Premier League Match: Sam Allison, in 2023, led the meeting between Sheffield United and Luton Town. In April, Rennie told the BBC that she was learning to walk again after being paralyzed from the waist down because of a rare condition.
“It’s a great sadness to learn about the death of referee Uriah Rennie. A pioneer, an architect and an extraordinary judge,” said Stan Collymore, former English and Liverpool team player, on social networks. “Rest in peace, referee.”
