Mariona Caldentey, a player for the Spanish team, said they were lucky that they were “alive” to advance to the quarterfinals after falling to Germany 2-0 on Tuesday on the second day of the Women’s European Championship.
Caldentey, who has had some of the clearest chances in Spain, has been extremely critical of La Roja’s performance at Brentford stadium.
“You’re not preparing for the game thinking that, again, in the first few minutes you’re going to be late. In those moments of the game we got better, we deserved more, but that’s not enough,” Mariona Caldentey said.
“Now you lose 2-0 because of specific mistakes, which are errors that we accept, but in championships like this the price is great. We’re lucky that it’s in the group stage and that we’re relying on our ourselves to get into the quarterfinals. Luckily we are alive, “added the attacker.
