The Tokyo Olympic Stadium welcome this Saturday a ceremony to celebrate the first anniversary of the Games of the capital of Japan, where a hundred athletes and politicians are participating in remembrance of an event marked by the pandemic.

“The organizing committee and the IOC have together given the world’s athletes the opportunity to realize their Olympic dreams, and we managed not to lose an entire generation of athletes in 206 National Olympic Committees around the world”said Bach.
The Tokyo Olympics were officially postponed on March 24, 2020 and finally held a year later despite persistent rumors of their cancellation and unprecedented anti-contagion measures that included strict restrictions for those athlete
“These Games will remain in the history books, therefore they will have a legacy forever,” Bach said, also pointing out that public opposition was “absolutely normal” given the health situation at the time.
The Tokyo Games had cFinal cost of 1.42 billion yen (10,120 million euros)according to the latest version of the budget presented last June.
This represents double the initial estimated cost for the event of around 7,000 million dollars (6,872 million euros) in 2013. The final figure includes the significant additional costs incurred from postponing the Games from their originally scheduled date, as well as anti-infectious health measures.
The popular rejection that Tokyo 2020 faced before being held and the bitter aftertaste it left in economic terms set an uncomfortable precedent for the candidacy put forward by Japan to host the Winter Games in 2030, in the northern city of Sapporo.
