Former US President Donald Trump is apparently flirting with a renewed candidacy for top office: “Maybe we should do it again,” Trump told supporters late Friday night (local time) during an election campaign event in the US state of Arizona, fueling speculation. Davor had spoken about his election victory in 2016 and had again claimed that he had also won the 2020 election.
To this day, the Republican refuses to admit defeat to US President Joe Biden. Trump appeared in Prescott Valley, Arizona, to support Republican candidate Kari Lake in the governor’s race. Looking ahead to the fall congressional elections and the 2024 presidential election, Trump said, “We will retake the Senate. We’re going to take America back, and in 2024, most importantly, we’re going to take back our beautiful, beautiful White House.” Lake told Trump, “For the record, I think ‘Superman’ is coming back. I hope he comes back soon.”
Trump would be 78 years old in the next election
Since his deselection, Trump has repeatedly flirted with renewed candidacy. In the United States, a person can serve two terms in office, consecutive or not. Trump would be 78 years old in just over two and a half years. “This incredible journey we are on together is just beginning,” Trump said.
Former Vice President Mike Pence also campaigned for Republican support in Arizona Friday night, albeit at a different event: Pence backs rival candidate Karrin Taylor Robson in the governor’s race. Observers consider this the latest sign that Pence wants to distance himself from his former boss — as both could be pushing for a possible White House candidacy in 2024.
