There is less than a week to go until the start of one of the other major international events this summer, the 19th World Under-20 Athletics Championships, from August 1-6 in Cali, Colombia. A World Cup in which two athletes from the region will participate, Mario Monreal from Jumilla and Jaime Mendoza from Cartagena.
In the case of Mario Monreal, the opportunity to debut in the national colors comes as part of the 3,000-meter dash, where the AC Vinos DOP Jumilla athlete is the current U-20 national champion in the indoor track and second in the outdoor, too. with the current regional record in the category, the 8:11.16 achieved in Granollers on July 2, during the National by Autonomous Federations. The 3,000 final is scheduled to take place on Friday the 5th at 5:00 PM in Cali (0:00 AM Peninsula Time).
For his part, Jaime Mendoza, an athlete of UCAM Cartagena, will add his second cap as part of the Spanish 4×100 relay, after the one he experienced on May 25 at the international meeting between Spain and Portugal in Huelva, and where he has contributed to achieving Spain’s sub-20 record of the specialty (39.42). Mendoza will also arrive in Cali as the current Spanish 60 and 100 ml champion, with his participation in the relay on Thursday 4 at 3 p.m. local time (10 p.m. peninsula time) in the preliminary round, with the final scheduled for Friday at 6 p.m. (1:00 peninsula time).
Before going to Colombian countries, the Spanish team continues its concentration in Segovia. They started last Saturday and will stay there until Friday.
