Jony: “If I leave Lazio, it’s just back to Sporting”

Date:

The extreme Johnny Rodriguez who this morning trained at Sporting after confirming his loan from Lazio, recalled at the end of the session that he had always said that if he left the Italian club “it would only go back to Gijón”.

Jony has been in Sporting’s concentration in Alicante since Monday, although unable to train because all the documentation has not been signed.

“The last minute edges are missing. I am happy to work with them and now try to improve on a daily basis,” said Jony, where “returning to Sporting means satisfaction, pride and responsibility.”

A responsibility that Jony takes because of “what he experienced last season, which was a very difficult month both at a group and individual level”, where he felt “disappointed with the lack of sequence of training sessions. “Something always happens and that creates anxiety and it doesn’t let you give up,” he said.

The situation is very different now, he said, “because there are still two weeks of preseason to reach the level that everyone expects” of him.

The footballer highlighted the “illusion” of the rojiblanco environment, as the fans are “more connected than ever” and expect “a strong group”.

“That takes time, you have to go step by step for the first game of the league so that people can see the team they want to see,” he stressed.

The club from Gijón is in the process of completing the squad and, after yesterday’s announcement of Santos Laguna’s transfer of Jordan Carrillo and Jony today, the next to join is central defender Cali Izquierdoz, pending the completion of documentation and also included in the team even without training, and the winger Cote, who will return to Sporting a decade after his departure from Roma.
