Michaela Specht: “I want to fix the defense”

Date:

Michaela Spect (Grafenwöhr, Germany, 1997) is a central defender signed for Real until 2024. The first German to join the club proves that he will bring experience to the exciting Champions League adventure.

First of all, welcome to Real.

Thanks a lot.

How do you define yourself in football?

I like to play football, fix a good ball from the end line. My position is central defender and I am a specialist in winning and passing the ball.

How were your beginnings in football?

I think the beginning was twenty years ago. I started in my hometown, in Grafenwöhr. I played there with my classmates, but at 16 they called me from Bayern Munich and I moved. I spent two seasons there, but in 2015 I went for seven seasons to play for TSG Hoffenheim. I played the Champions League with my last team and I want to compete with Real in different competitions.

Have you noticed the difference between the German and Spanish league?

We haven’t played any friendly yet, although this weekend we have the Feeling Cup. In the German league everything is more physical than here. At the end of the day, Real are a good team and they are committed to playing good football.

Why did you choose Real?

Last year they played very well and finished second. I like a change of scenery. I am also sure that the club will return to the top positions.

How were your first days?

Interesting, but completely different from what I’m used to. I’m one of the few who can’t speak Spanish, but my classmates make it very easy for me. The things I had to do were explained to me in English.

How are your friends?

Very beautiful. They watch me all the time.

Do you have any dreams as a footballer?

I think the most important thing is to have fun and grow both personally and football-wise.

What are your strong and weak points?

My weak point is that I’m not as tall as I’d like, but I usually stand out for the organization I send on the pitch.

How did you experience the England-Germany final of the Women’s European Championship?

I’m sad that the national team lost, but for now I want to focus on the opportunity that Real gave me.

Do you have any hobbies besides football?

I like to go to breakfast or dinner with my family. I also often go hiking and I also like to ride a bike.

Have you studied any career?

I am studying a master’s degree in business psychology.

What is your favorite place in Donostia?

Zurriola Bridge. There I can clear my mind and observe the horizon. Also, Gros is one of my favorite neighborhoods.

Are you thinking of learning Spanish and a little Basque?

I highly doubt Basque because it’s so complicated. In what I have been to Donostia I have only learned a few words, but the club offers courses during the season. Right now, I defend myself with an app I installed on my phone.

Do you usually listen to music or podcasts?

I only listen to podcasts.

What place would you visit again?

A few years ago I was in New York and I loved it. Although one of my favorite cities in Europe is London. The London Eye is amazing.
