John Huh, ranked No. 248 in the world, topped the PGA Tour’s Wyndham Championship American with a two-shot lead after Thursday’s opening round with a 61 (-9).
The 32-year-old American, seeking a second title after the 2012 Mayakoba Classic, made seven birdies and an eagle without making a bogey to lead South Korea’s Sung-jae Im (-7)who made two eagles on the course at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, North Carolina.
“The truth is I was surprised to be at the top of the table. I didn’t feel like my game was there, but it was one of those days where I got some good shots.“, commented Huh, who achieved the best score of his career in a single round.
The Spanish Rafa Cabrera Bello started the tournament well and closed the first day in fifth placefour shots behind the leader, after signing -5.
