Augusto Fernandez picked up where he left off

Date:

The Spanish Augusto Fernandez (Kalex) broke Briton Jake Dixon’s (Kalex) streak on Friday and took first place at the end of the opening day of the Moto2 British Grand Prix at the Silverstone circuit.

The second session did not start very well for Arón Canet (Kalex), who suffered a crash at the moment it started and was not even able to set an initial reference time, despite the fact that the Valencian rider from Corbera arrived at Silverstone fully recovered. from nosebleed problems that forced him to be hospitalized up to three times during the holidays and twice to go through the operating room, because he did not solve his problems in the first intervention. Canet had to undergo a second surgical intervention through laparoscopy to repair the damage that occurred to the two nasal arteries.

The situation was even worse for “local” Sam Lowes (Kalex), who suffered a fall in the first round of the free trials where a dislocated left shoulder caused him to be declared “unfit” for his home race Doctors also did not allow Pedro Acosta to run, who was declared “unfit” for the British Grand Prix after a double medical check-up that took place yesterday and today at the Silverstone circuit. X-rays confirmed the worst prognosis, the callus had not consolidated.

The good conditions allowed all drivers to quickly improve their records in the morning, although there was a clear common denominator in British Jake Dixon (Kalex), who immediately took the lead in the standings, which followed by the Spaniard Augusto Fernández, the Italian Tony Arbolino and the Japanese Ai Ogura, all on Kalex tracks, in addition to Alonso López in one of the two Boscoscuros in the championship.

In less than ten minutes of effective practice, Arón Canet was back on the British track to try to improve the twelfth place that, at that time, he occupied the time table, led all the time by the British Dixon, to two minutes. from the end he was on the ground at turn thirteen and was unable to defend his position from the attacks of Augusto Fernández.

Fernández, level on points with the Italian Celestino Vietti (Kalex), set up his motorcycle correctly and in the last seconds he climbed into first position, beating Jake Dixon who was unable to defend it after crashing, although he was ahead of Alonso López, Tony Arbolino, Albert Arenas, Czech Filip Salac, Japanese Ai Ogura, Italian Celestino Vietti and German Marcel Schrotter, who took the top ten positions at the end of the day.

Again Vietti, the world leader, was not very successful on the day, finishing in a cautious ninth place, almost a second behind his most direct rival for the title, Augusto Fernández.

Although it cost more than expected due to the few laps he did, Arón Canet improved his time in the morning, without allowing him to improve his position in the classification, where he occupied the thirteenth position, ahead of Fermín Aldeguer ( Boscoscuro), with Manuel González (Kalex) seventeenth, Jorge Navarro (Kalex) behind him; Marcos Ramírez (Kalex), twentieth, and Jeremy Alcoba (Kalex), twenty-fourth.
