Benfica made a strong start on Friday to the 2022/23 season of the Portuguese First League by demolishing Arouca 4-0 in the opening match of the tournament.
Brazilian Gilberto opened the scoring for the Lisbon team in the 8th minute with a header after a pass from Spanish Alejandro Grimaldo.
The second goal of the match and of the season came in the 42nd minute, when Portuguese Rafa Silva headed in another goal, this time after grabbing the rebound from a shot by his compatriot Gonçalo Ramos that hit the one of the poles.
Argentine Enzo Fernández closed the scoring in the first half in the 47th minute. And Rafa Silva scored a brace in the 86th minute after a pass from Danish winger Alexander Bah.
The rest of the first day
On Saturday they will play champions Porto against Marítimo, Rio Ave against Vizela and Estoril Praia against Famalicão.
On Sunday Sporting will face Braga, Santa Clara against Casa Pia AC, Chaves against Vitória SC and Portimonense against Boavista.
The meeting between Gil Vicente and Paços de Ferreira is scheduled for Monday.
